I’ve recieved my long-awaited G1 from the UK, I believe it was the third to become available on eBay UK and the first that I could convince the seller to ship to Australia.
The good news is that I successfully unlocked it with the service at http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com/ and it is FULLY WORKING with 3G on the 3 network in Australia.

I got mine on eBay UK. Had to convince the seller that I wouldn’t scam him - seems to be the norm in the UK to not ship anywhere else in the world.
Also be pre-warned I was charged import duty on mine too.
